In 2021, the number of patients in a coma amounted to around 26.5 thousand people in Spain. The most affected age group included those aged 65 and over, which accounted for about 15 thousand comatose patients, or nearly 57 percent of the total. Individuals between 35 and 64 years followed, with approximately 7.3 thousand patients receiving primary health care attention due to coma, a state in which the individual is unconscious and unresponsive.
