Spain had over 140 franchises in 2019 to enjoy all Kentucky Fried Chicken or KFC products, with the largest proportion of restaurants concentrating in Madrid and Catalonia. The turnover of fast food restaurants in Spain stood at approximately 2.8 billion euros in 2018.
KFC not the biggest in Spain
The franchise with the highest number of restaurants in Spain was the American hamburger-specialized chain Burger King, which had approximately 750 establishments in the Mediterranean country in 2018. McDonald’s followed with 515 restaurants that year.
Fastfood is becoming increasingly popular
In 2018, 27 percent of respondents stated that they had visited a fast food franchise. There are other indicators that seem to indicate that the industry is scaling up, such as the Spanish expenditure on fast food – which is projected to amount to over 2.9 billion euros in 2019 – or the fact that the number of this type of restaurants were opening more often than closing down in Spain.
