At the beginning of the 1990s, there were over 2.3 thousand fields for aircraft operations in Mexico. This number had gone down drastically by 1996. Since then, the numbe of aerodromes in Mexican territory fluctuated, though showing an overall moderate but upward trend. In 2019, the country had more than 1.4 thousand facilities of this type. Since 2017, the number of Mexican commercial airports amounted to 77.
