In financial year 2023, it was estimated that Karnataka would produce the highest volume of pepper in India. The south Indian state was estimated to produce about 36 thousand metric tons of pepper that year. The perennial woody vine of pepper was expected to be grown in an area of about 180 thousand hectares of land in Karnataka.
