This statistic shows the foreign assets and liabilities in debt securities as share of GDP in the Netherlands as of 2016. It shows that the ratio of the foreign liabilities outweighed the foreign assets. In 2016, the value of assets held by Netherlands-based bank ING reached a total of approximately 845 billion euros. This makes it the leading bank in the Benelux, when it comes to total assets.
In the Netherlands, a few large institutions dominate the domestic financial markets. In 2015, for example, the five largest Dutch credit institutions, which include ING, Rabobank and ABN Amro, held approximately 85 percent of the total assets. The Dutch banking sector, consequently, is one of the most concentrated in Europe.
