The number of persons entitled to vote in the Norwegian parliamentary elections has been growing steadily from 1945 to 2021. In 1945 when the first parliamentary elections after the German occupation took place, the number of entitled voters amounted to roughly two million. By 2021, the number had almost doubled, reaching 3.9 million registered voters. The Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget) is elected every four years.

The Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget) is elected every four years. There are 169 seats in the Norwegian Parliament, distributed in accordance with a method known as proportional representation. The system guarantees that political parties gain seats in the Norwegian Parliament in proportion to the number of votes cast for them throughout the country.
