In Norway, nearly half the population above 18 years was against joining the European Union as of August 2022. Norway last held a referendum on whether it should join the union in 1994, when 52.2 percent of the population voted against joining the EU. Nevertheless, the country enjoys tight political and economic ties with the EU, and is a member of the European Economic Area (EEA).
