Best-selling light vehicle manufacturers in Mexico 2021

The Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan was the vehicle brand with the highest number of light vehicles sold in Mexico in 2021, with just under 204,600 units sold from January to December that year. The German multinational Volkswagen ranked second with around 130,100 light vehicle units sold during the same period. In total, the number of light vehicles sold in the country in 2021 amounted to almost around one million units.

Mexico's automotive manufacturing power

Several of the most sold car brands in Mexico are assembled and distributed by the leading manufacturers in the Mexican market. The automotive industry in Mexico is an important source of employment as well as one of the main columns of the manufacturing sector in the country. As of March 2021, just under 832,000 employees were working in the auto parts manufacturing branch of the industry.

Leader on the automotive sector in Latin America

Mexico is the Latin American country that produces the largest number of motor vehicles and also holds the seventh position among the leading car producing countries worldwide. Despite the important position of Mexico in the global automotive market, the results in 2020 showed a slowdown, likely affected by the downward trend the country had already entered in the previous years and the effects of the novel coronavirus pandemic.
