This statistic displays the percentage of U.S. adults that were concerned about themselves or someone in their family contracting Lyme disease as of 2017, by region. According to the survey, 57 percent of respondents in the Northeastern United States indicated that they were either very concerned or somewhat concerned about Lyme disease. Comparatively, just 28 percent of respondents in the Western United States indicated they were very concerned or somewhat concerned about Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a bacterial infection transmitted by ticks to humans. If left untreated, Lyme disease can affect the joints, heart and nervous system.
