A survey from 2022 found, that the most used digital music service among Norwegians was YouTube. 66 percent of respondents stated to watch or listen to music or music videos on this platform. Spotify was the second most popular online music service in Norway, according to 65 percent of individuals interviewed.
The online video platform YouTube
YouTube was founded in 2005 as an US American online video sharing service. Aside from music videos, consumers can find, amongst others, TV clips, video blogs, as well as instructional or educational content on the website. As of 2017, the platform had roughly 1.47 billion users worldwide. Until 2021, the number is expected to increase to over 1.8 billion users.
Spotify ranked highest in another poll
A different picture is shown in another survey conducted in May 2020. Here, 63 percent of respondents in Norway stated to listen to music on the Premium version of Spotify. Thus, it was the most popular music streaming service. Compared to that, YouTube was used by only 33 percent of Norwegians.
