In the period under survey, most of the roughly 300 bookstores in Sweden belonged to the chain Akademibokhandeln, which operated approximately 120 bookstores in Sweden. The chain also includes franchising. Meanwhile, JB Gruppen had 44 stores, consisting of individually owned bookstores that have a joint purchasing cooperation. The chain Ugglan was present on the physical book retail market with 55 shops - all being independent stores carrying the name Ugglan.
