In 2024, easyJet transported just under 89.7 million passengers. This was a roughly eight percent increase compared to the previous year, when passenger traffic for the company was 82.8 million. During the past 13 years, EasyJet's passenger numbers mainly grew and reached its peak in 2019 before dropping significantly in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Business performance of easyJet
The business model of low-cost carriers (LCCs) requires them to maximize capacity and minimize costs. To do so, easyJet tried to maximize its passenger load factor such that the company’s performance remains economically viable. The company managed to increase its seat occupancy levels up to 92.9 percent in 2018. EasyJet was not able to sustain the high level of seat occupancy during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the load factor dropped to 72.5 percent but began recovering in 2022 and reached 89.3 percent in 2023 and 2024.
