The number of domestic arrivals in hotel facilities in Italy declined sharply during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020 over the previous year. Overall, domestic arrivals in hotels reached roughly 28 million in 2020, dropping from over 50 million in 2019. Meanwhile, domestic arrivals in non-hotel facilities also decreased due to the pandemic, though less than dramatically. In 2020, non-hotel accommodations in Italy recorded around 11 million arrivals of Italian travelers, while they reported nearly 16 million arrivals in 2019.
