Distribution of trips made by Italians 2019-2023, by means of transport

Between 2019 and 2023, cars were the most popular means of transportation among Italian travelers. In 2023, car trips accounted for roughly 59 percent of all journeys made by Italian residents, denoting a decline over the previous year. Meanwhile, approximately 21 percent of all trips were made by plane that year, with an increase of 2.5 percentage points from 2022.
