Excluding sales to governmental entities, book sales revenue in Brazil added up to more than 4.04 billion Brazilian reals in 2023, of which over 1.1 billion reals (or about 28 percent) came from bookstores. Exclusively online bookstores reported almost 1.3 billion reals in revenue, thus accounting for 32 percent of the total. All in all, online bookstores' share in Brazil's book sales revenue has been growing in recent years, while traditional bookstores' share is on a decline. However this trend seems to have turned around in 2023.
