Throughout 2023, publishers in Brazil issued almost 320 million book copies, down 1.1 percent from around 323 million a year earlier. The number of units sold in the free market decreased by roughly eight percent to 172 million, while sales to state-run organizations inclined by 23 percent. The number of book titles published in Brazil dropped by 0.8 percent in the same period.
