Negative views of the president's record on LGBT rights in France 2021, by party

"The homosexual community will always find a defender in me", stated Emmanuel Macron in an interview for L'Obs, conducted shortly before his election in 2017. Four years later, however, a poll conducted on the occasion of the June 2021 Pride March shows that many French people judge the president's record on the issue of LGBT rights negatively. For example, more than half of the people surveyed gave a negative assessment of Emmanuel Macron's action in terms of improving the rights of same-sex couples and same-sex families, as well as the fight against discrimination towards LGBT people.

Indeed, if the adoption of the bioethics law by the National Assembly was a step forward, allowing access to medically assisted procreation for homosexual couples and single women, several key measures were removed from the final text of the law, including access to medically assisted reproduction for transgender people, and the end of genital mutilation of intersex children.
