Group I base oils are the least refined base oils, produced by solvent refining.
Group II base oils are a better grade than the Group I base oils, partially produced by hydrocracking.
Group III base oils are the best grade of petroleum base oil, and they are entirely produced by hydrocracking, which gives these oils a higher purity.
