This statistic shows the sense of security of cash and non-cash payments in the Benelux countries (Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) in 2017. Approximately 62 percent of the Belgian respondents indicated they feel payments without cash are secure, where around 33 percent feels cash transactions are secure. The European average shows more trust in cash money transactions than the Belgians.
In the last years, the number of available mobile payment apps in the Benelux countries steadily increased. In the Netherlands, banking apps from major banks as Rabobank, ING and ABN Amro were updated in 2013 to enable checkouts using iDEAL, a payment method with a current market share of over 50 percent. In March 2017, Belgian banks BNP Paribas Fortis, Fintro and Hello Bank! launched their support for Android Pay whilst the Swedish mobile payment platform Seqr was introduced in Luxembourg in July 2016.
