In 2022, book sales revenue in Mexico amounted to almost 11.3 billion Mexican pesos, of which around 9.5 billion (or 80 percent of the total) came from the consumer market. The remaining 1.77 billion pesos came from sales to the National Commission for Free Textbooks (CONALITEG, as abbreviated in Spanish), a state-run agency that supplies children in public schools with textbooks free of charge. The three best-selling book genres in Mexico in 2022 were related to education.
