Fast food outlets have the highest operating revenue per square meter of all food service establishments in Singapore. This is due to the high customer turnover and sales volume in such quick service food outlets, compared to a full-service restaurant. Fast food establishments also have lower operating costs, especially in terms of remuneration and prices of goods and materials, the two highest operating costs for food and beverages establishments.

Slowing growth and sales in a mature and saturated fast food market

Despite the popularity of fast food among people in Singapore, sales of fast food decreased in 2023 compared to the previous year. Despite slowing sales growth, more new fast food outlets are opening in Singapore than closing. Popular U.S. fried chicken fast-food chain Chick-fil-A is the latest new entrant in Singapore’s fast food scene, with plans to open its first franchises there in 2025.
