Butter production volume in Japan FY 2014-2023
In fiscal year 2023, the production volume of butter in Japan declined to around 68.5 thousand metric tons. Following school closures and shortened business hours during the coronavirus pandemic between 2020 and 2022, milk demand at institutional bodies declined, resulting in a surplus in liquid milk supply. As a result, fresh milk was processed into dairy products with a longer shelf life, such as butter.
