Global interconnectedness and air transportation
Since the 2000s, global air freight traffic increased to a certain extent exponentially, reaching over 66 million metric tons freight in 2021. Similarly, the size of the cargo airline industry worldwide developed progressively over the recent five years, generating almost 123 billion U.S. dollars in 2021. To expand purposefully, companies either merge together or acquire a different company to enter into different markets. Globally the merger and acquisition deals volume of transportation and logistics firms reached a peak at 214.1 billion U.S. dollars in 2021. When it comes to the leading firms, Federal Express (FedEx), Emirates, and Qatar Airways were the leading airlines by freight tonne-kilometers.
FedEx
Headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, FedEx Corporation is a multinational American delivery services provider. Since its foundation in 1971, the company experienced a promising growth path. By means of strong industrial strategy and market adaptation, FedEx became one of the largest logistics company globally. Over the recent decade, FedEx Corporation’s revenue more than doubled, reaching roughly 93.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2022. As the leading air cargo company worldwide, FedEx sustains a large aircraft fleet for its global operations and continues to expand or restructure its existing fleet.
