The natural gas demand volume in the power sector in India was around 207 million metric standard cubic meter per day in fiscal year 2017. This was estimated to increase to over 260 million metric standard cubic meter per day in fiscal year 2020. Of the total power consumption in fiscal year 2018, industrial sector accounted for the largest share, at about 48 percent, followed by domestic and agricultural sectors at 24 and 18 percent respectively. The transmission losses in electricity across the south Asian country stood at a little over 21 percent that year.
