The production of sugar cane has been expanding in Panama lately. In the 2016/17 crop, nearly 2.7 million short tons of that grass were harvested in the Central American country, up from approximately 2.5 million short tons harvested during the 2012/13 crop. Furthermore, agriculture remains a relevant feature of the economy of Panama altogether.
