This statistic shows the number of elected United Kingdom (UK) general election candidates in England from 1918 to 2015, broken down by political party affiliation. During this time period, the number of candidates across all political parties had been steadily increasing. The peak in Conservative Party candidate numbers was recorded in the 2010 and 2015 general elections at 532 candidates, respectively. By comparison, the number of candidates for the Labour Party also experienced its peak at the 2010 and 2015 general elections with a number equal to those of the Conservative Party. The number of candidates from parties other than the three major ones has experienced the greatest growth, increasing from 181 candidates at the 1918 general elections to 1.6 thousand candidates at the 2015 general elections.
