In Italy, between the years 2006 and 2019, the average age of couples at the date of the decree of eligibility to adopt increased. In fact, the average age of husbands rose to 47.2 years by 2019, while wives' average age increased to 45.5 in the same year.
However, between 2004 and 2019, the number of children adopted from abroad decreased. In 2019, 1,205 children were adopted in Italy.
