Number of workers at discos, ballrooms, and nightclubs in Italy 2020, by month

The number of individuals working for discos, ballrooms, and nightclubs in Italy fell dramatically in March 2020 over the previous month. Since the Italian government implemented a national lockdown to limit the spread of COVID-19 infections, live entertainment companies and similar businesses had to stay close to the public between March and May 2020. As a result of the closures, the number of employees of discos, ballrooms, and nightclubs dropped from over 5,000 in March to around 1,600 in April. While employment figures rose during the summer, they went down again over the last months of 2020, as the country adopted new emergency restrictions due to the health crisis.
