The U.S. CPI for energy increased to 139.6 index points in 2023. Post 2021, the consumer price indices increased in many countries as economies recovered from the coronavirus pandemic, which led to an energy supply shortage in the latter half of the year. As such, the 2022 index increased to levels not seen since 2008.
