The production volume of crude steel by private sector companies in India at the end of 2022 accounted for around 103 million metric tons. It was a huge increase in comparison with the previous year. There was a constant rise in this volume until 2019. The decrease in 2020 was mostly due to the impact of coronavirus pandemic. India was the world's second-largest steel producing nation in 2022 after China.
