The mining industry can be one of the more dangerous industries in the world. The Brazilian multinational mining company Vale is no exception, and had three employee deaths and two contractor deaths in 2022.
In January 2019, the Brumadinho dam disaster disaster occurred, in which a tailings dam owned by Vale collapsed east of Brumadinho, Minas Gerais, Brazil. In total, 270 people died of which 119 people were contractors of Vale and 131 were direct employees.
