This statistic illustrates a ranking of the leading banks by total assets in Italy as of 2016. Assets include all finance from all areas that provide value to the bank including, but not limited to, interest-earning loan accounts, cash, reserves and physical assets such as property that the bank owns. It can be seen that UniCredit was ranked the highest, with total assets amounting to more than 860 billion euros at that time. Intesa Sanpaolo ranked second for the same period, with assets amounting to over 676 billion euros, a difference of almost 184 billion euros in comparison to UniCredit.
