Number of same-day domestic trips in Italy 2019-2023, by purpose
The number of same-day trips in Italy declined in 2023 over the previous year, remaining significantly below the figures reported before the impact of COVID-19. Overall, both before and after the onset of the pandemic, Italians took most domestic one-day trips for leisure, recreation, and free time purposes. In 2023, domestic same-day travelers made roughly 26.8 million trips for such reasons. That year, same-day visits to friends or relatives reached around 6.5 million.
