As of March 31, 2023, Japan counted approximately 1.17 million trucks registered for commercial use, increasing slightly compared to the previous year. Commercial-use trucks apply to vehicles whose registration indicates the transportation of another owner's cargo for a freight rate. Japanese regulations refer to all other trucks as private-use trucks.
