Between 2009 and 2021, the return on sales (ROS) of the food industry in Italy has rather fluctuated. After a peak reached in 2016 with a return-on-sales share of 6.6 percent, the profitability of the food industry gradually decreased to 5.8 percent as of 2021. Furthermore, a further decreased was estimated for 2022, at four percent.
