Over the years observed, the share of Polish online grocery users has fluctuated. In 2019, a record-high share of 14 percent of people in Poland purchased food or groceries online.
Popularity of online grocery shopping in Poland
In 2021, purchasing groceries over the internet was the most popular activity among young Poles aged between 18 and 24 years old. In the same year, time-saving and greater convenience were the leading motivations for online grocery shopping. In terms of the number of online grocery purchases made, one in four Poles shopped for groceries online between 12 and 24 times per month.
Online grocery stores in Poland
Allegro was the most recognizable online grocery store in the country in 2021, with roughly 20 percent of Poles indicating this brand in a spontaneous awareness survey. Lidl and Tesco followed, recognized by one in 10 respondents. When ordering e-groceries for delivery, three-quarters of Polish consumers chose home delivery or a courier service in 2021. Speed of order processing wise, over half of the e-grocery stores in Poland delivered products to their customers on the same day or the next working day. At the same time, one in 10 online grocery stores delivered ordered goods within two hours.

Data given are based on the annual Eurostat Model Questionnaires on ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) in households and by individuals. The aim of the European ICT usage surveys is to collect and disseminate harmonised and comparable information on the use of Information and Communication Technologies in enterprises and e-commerce at European level.
