During fiscal year 2023, Maharashtra Waterways, with a volume of above 63 million metric tons, carried the highest cargo volume across the major inland waterways in India. This was followed by Gujarat Waterways that had a volume of around 27 million metric tons. In that year, the total cargo volume across inland waterways was over 126 million metric tons. In comparison to the preceding year, this volume had witnessed a rise.
