In the financial year 2023, the non-major ports in the union territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands handled over one thousand passengers. Since the financial year 2012, there was a constant increase in the passenger traffic handled by these ports, the decrease in passenger traffic was partially due to the impact of coronavirus pandemic.

Major ports are under the union list while the non-major ports are under the concurrent list of the constitution of India. Therefore, major ports are under the administrative control of government of India while the non-major ports are governed by the respective maritime state governments.
