The volume of edible oils unloaded at major Indian ports from Indonesia amounted to around 2.9 million metric tons at the end of fiscal year 2023. This was the highest amount of edible oil unloaded for any country in India. Brazil was the second, with 2.1 million metric tons. The total volume of edible oil unloaded at major Indian ports was around 11.74 million metric tons.

Major ports are under the union list while the non-major ports are under the concurrent list of the constitution of India. Therefore, major ports are under the administrative control of government of India while the non-major ports are governed by the respective maritime state governments.
