Most popular radio stations in Philadelphia 2020

In October 2020, WDAS-FM was the leading radio station in Philadelphia with a rating of 9.1, meaning that 9.1 percent of radio listeners in the city listened to that radio station for at least five minutes in each quarter hour period. Other stations frequently in the top ten stations in Philadelphia include WOGL-FM (classic hits) and WMMR-FM (rock). Philadelphia radio listeners are not the only ones with a penchant for such radio formats, with classic rock and classic hits stations also featuring among the leading radio stations in New York.

Radio and rock

Whilst classic rock may not be the most popular music genre in the United States, it is still among the leading radio formats in the country with over 550 stations recorded in 2019, a number which has increased in recent years while the number of sports and adult contemporary stations has fallen. Figures from 2018 show that Millennials preferred classic rock radio to sports formats - interesting to note given that some of the world’s most famous classic rock talent enjoyed their heyday long before Millennial listeners were born. Unsurprisingly though, the classic rock radio format is more popular among older generations. More than 26 percent of classic rock radio listeners in the U.S. were aged between 45 and 54 years old in 2018, the highest share among all age groups.
