Largest banks in Austria 2023, by assets

In 2023, the largest bank by total assets in Austria was Erste Group Bank, with approximately 102 billion euros in assets. It was followed by UniCredit Bank Austria, with total assets of around 99 billion euros. Raiffeisen Bank International ranked third, with 82.3 billion euros on its balance sheet. Despite being Austria's largest bank, Erste Group Bank's assets were significantly less than those of some of Europe's largest banks.

In 2023, Erste Group Bank had core operations in seven countries across Central and Eastern Europe. The banking group had more than 16 million customers in its countries of operation, across almost 2,000 branches. Austria was Erste Group Bank's second-largest market, following only Czechia, where the brand operates under the name Česká spořitelna.

Other leading banks in Austria

Despite Erste Group Bank's leading position in terms of total assets in Austria, the company ranked second in terms of market penetration for large corporations. Raiffeisen Zentralbank is considered Austria's largest corporate and investment bank.
