At the end of the fiscal year 2023, Deendayal port or formerly known as Kandle port in Gujarat, India, handled overseas cargo traffic of over 122 million metric tons. About 70 percent of trade by value and more than 95 percent by volume across the south Asian country was done through maritime transport.

India's financial year begins in April and ends in March. For example, FY 2016 started in April 2015 and ended in March 2016.
Major ports are under the union list while the non-major ports are under the concurrent list of the constitution of India. Therefore, major ports are under the administrative control of government of India while the non-major ports are governed by the respective maritime state governments.
