The consumer expenditure on mobile games for conventional mobile phones in Japan amounted to approximately 10 billion Japanese yen, down from about 96 billion Japanese yen in 2013. While games for conventional mobile phones experienced a sharp decrease, the smartphone game market more than doubled during the same time period, reaching about 1.36 trillion Japanese yen in 2017.
