Global coal power generation by country 2023

China is the leading producer of coal-sourced electricity. In 2023, China had a coal power generation of 5,742.45 terawatt hours. This is nearly four times the amount generated by India, which ranked second. Coal is by far the most important energy source in China, accounting for close to 70 percent of all energy generated.
