As of December 2022, close to 597 thousand foreign nationals lived in Tokyo Prefecture. The prefecture of Japan's capital was followed by Aichi Prefecture, which is home to many manufacturing businesses that depend on foreign labor. The lowest number of foreign residents was recorded in Akita Prefecture, which is part of the more rural Tohoku region.
