The Valencia-based grocery retailer Mercadona ranked as the most profitable supermarket in terms of commercial area, with a productivity per square meter clocking up 10.6 thousand euros in 2018. The German retailer Lidl, part of the Schwarz Group, was second on the list at a profitability of 7.1 thousand euros per square meter during the same period.
