The net equity of households in pension funds as a percentage of total household financial assets in Austria decreased by 0.2 percentage points (-2.52 percent) since the previous year. Nevertheless, the last two years recorded a significant higher net equity of households in pension funds than the preceding years. Pension entitlements refer to the amount of money from their retirement fund to which someone has a right to receive. This indicator measures the weight that those pension entitlements have on average within the total financial assets owned by households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISH).
Net equity of households in life insurance reserves and in pension funds consists of reserves held against life insurance and annuity policies by insurance enterprises, whether mutual or incorporated, and by pension funds, these reserves are considered to be assets of the policyholders and not of the institutional units that manage them.
