Coffee brands used at home in the United Kingdom (UK) in 2017
In February 2017, Statista conducted a survey of 800 ‘coffee lover’ respondents in the United Kingdom to find out which brand they would typically use at home. When asked which brand coffee drinkers usually use at home, 48 percent of respondents indicated that they buy Nescafe coffee, followed by Douwe Egberts at 22 percent.
Comparison with the US market
While Nescafe may be in front for home brand use in the UK, it only takes fourth place in the US home market. In the States Folgers, Maxwell house and Keurig surpass the instant coffee brand owned by Nestle. This can be explained when we look at which types of coffee are most popular in each market. Instant coffee is vastly more popular for home consumption in the UK, compared to drip coffee which leads in the American market.

When drinking coffee somewhere other than home, UK coffee drinkers prefer milk coffee, latte macchiato, and café au lait. However instant coffee still comes in at fourth place with eleven percent of respondents stating that they prefer it as their out of home coffee of choice.
