Furniture industry turnover in Norway 2008-2017

The Norwegian furniture industry generated an increasing revenue in the past years. It grew from almost 15.1 billion Norwegian kroner in 2008 to roughly 18.4 billion Norwegian kroner in 2017. In this year, the furniture retailer IKEA made the highest revenue in Norway with around 7.4 billion Norwegian kroner. Second ranked was Bohus, whose revenue was much lower, amounting to approximately 2.2 billion Norwegian kroner. In the revenue ranking, Skeidar, JYSK, Møbelringen and Fagmøbler followed.   

 Which sector generated the highest revenue?

In 2017, the retail sale of furniture generated a revenue of 18.4 billion Norwegian kroner. It was ahead of the category “furniture and interior trade apart from the specialized trade”. This sector’s revenue amounted to about 5.8 billion Norwegian kroner. By comparison, the retail sale of curtains made the lowest revenue with 29 million Norwegian kroner.

International trade

Norway’s import value of furniture increased in recent years, while the value of exported furniture decreased overall. As of 2018, the import value of furniture into Norway peaked at almost 15 billion Norwegian kroner. In the same year, the export value from Norway was 2.3 billion Norwegian kroner.
