In 2021, there were 562 hospitals with a department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Italy. Among these, in 335 facilities it was possible to perform voluntary interruptions of pregnancy, corresponding to 59.6 percent of the hospitals. This statistic show regional differences in these figures. According to the data, the number of hospitals performing this medical procedure was much lower in Southern regions compared to Northern or Central ones, except for the two Autonomous Provinces of Bolzano and Trento that reported also a low figure.
